Brussels, 27th July 2023 - The Argentine Embassy to the European Union participated in a meeting organized by CREA's Livestock Commission, along with agricultural entrepreneurs, to address the challenges and opportunities presented by the EU Regulation on deforestation-free products and its implications for international trade.
The meeting, conducted in a constructive dialogue atmosphere, was attended by stakeholders from the livestock sector, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives from the Argentine Embassy. The main objective was to analyze the measures established in the aforementioned EU Regulation, its potential impact, and its implementation.
During the meeting, the importance of promoting sustainable and responsible practices in the agricultural sector was emphasized, along with the need to ensure traceability and transparency in the production of products destined for the European market, following national conditions and approaches.
The EU Regulation on deforestation-free products has become a relevant topic for Argentine exporters, especially in the livestock sector, given that the rules and requirements imposed by the EU could have a significant impact on access to international markets and the sector's competitiveness.
In this context, the official Argentine sector reaffirmed its commitment to work together with stakeholders involved in agricultural production and trade to find joint solutions that promote sustainable practices and comply with EU standards. Additionally, the importance of fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors was highlighted to promote sustainable development and strengthen bilateral trade.
The meeting provided a suitable space for exchanging viewpoints and seeking avenues of consensus with the aim of ensuring compliance with European regulations while also ensuring fair and beneficial trade for both parties.
