Brussels, 5th July 2023 - The Argentine Embassy to the European Union participated in the meeting organized by the Argentine Rural Society to provide information on the EU regulation regarding deforestation.
The Argentine Rural Society (SRA) is a civil association founded in 1866 that brings together landowners in the Pampas region of Argentina, dedicated to agriculture and livestock farming. The main objective of this meeting was to inform and discuss the new regulation of the European Union (EU) regarding deforestation.
The meeting took place virtually and was attended by representatives from the agricultural and livestock industry, as well as experts in environmental policies and opinion leaders in the region. During the session, the Embassy had the opportunity to share its knowledge and perspectives on the EU regulation and its impact on the Argentine Cattle and Meat industry.
The EU regulation on deforestation, adopted with the aim of combating imported deforestation to the EU, establishes due diligence requirements for a range of agricultural and livestock products imported into the EU that are considered to contribute to global deforestation. It demands traceability of these products and requires that they have been produced in accordance with local legislation. This regulation has a global scope and seeks to discourage practices that contribute to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and biodiversity loss, both within the EU and worldwide.
The presence of the Argentine Embassy to the EU at this event demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and its willingness to actively contribute to environmental protection, the fight against climate change, and the conservation of natural resources. Argentina has stood out in its agribusiness sector for implementing responsible and sustainable practices in its operations, ensuring the responsible use of natural resources and minimizing its environmental impact.
In addition to its participation in this meeting, we continue to work in collaboration with relevant organizations and authorities to ensure compliance with international standards of environmental sustainability.
