DIALOGUE ON HUMAN RIGHTS - GENDER CHAPTER

or the first time, at the initiative of our country, the dialogue on gender issues had its own space. Argentina and the European Union are partners who share fundamental values ​​on gender and human rights issues. We will continue to cooperate closely at the bilateral and multilateral level on these issues.

 

"LOCAL DIALOGUE ON HUMAN RIGHTS ARGENTINA-EUROPEAN UNION OCTOBER 27 & 28, 2020 Buenos Aires - On October 27 and 28, the sixth Local Dialogue on Human Rights was held between the European Union and Argentina, where a specific chapter on gender issues was included for the first time. The previous edition of this Dialogue was in April 2019. The Dialogue, which was held virtually due to the situation imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, was structured in two days. During the first of them, on October 27, issues on the human rights agenda were discussed, including: policies with a human rights perspective that are being implemented to face the consequences of Covid-19; policies for the protection of migrants and refugees; issues of inclusion, diversity and human rights and the fight against discrimination (LGBTI, disability, girls / boys / adolescents); Rights of indigenous peoples; Truth, Memory and Justice policies; initiatives on business and human rights; institutional violence; and issues of multilateral cooperation, particularly in United Nations bodies, where the joint work of the EU and Argentina ensures better and greater promotion and protection of human rights at a global level.

The second day of the Dialogue, on the 28th, was devoted entirely to gender and women's rights issues; Among those that stood out: implementation of the agenda related to Women, Peace and Security (resolution 1325 (2000) of the United Nations Security Council); gender equality and economic autonomy for women; gender-based violence; economic autonomy and professional careers; political participation of women; comprehensive care policy; and policies to promote gender equality in foreign policy institutions. The EU and Argentina highlighted during the Dialogue that they are partners who share fundamental values ​​and that, as such, they play a significant role at the regional level and also in multilateral forums. In this sense, they will continue this type of dialogue on a regular basis, and will continue to cooperate closely at the bilateral and multilateral level on the issues of human rights and gender equality between men and women. Different agencies of the Argentine State related to the subject of Human Rights and Gender participated in the meeting, among them the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity, the Secretariat for Human Rights of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the Undersecretary of Affairs Politicians and the National Directorate of Migration of the Ministry of the Interior, the National Institute of Indigenous Affairs (INAI) and the National Institute against Discrimination (INADI). The Ambassador of the European Union in Argentina led the interventions on behalf of the EU. Representatives of 13 embassies of member states accredited in the country participated, as well as officials from the EU Delegation, the European External Action Service and the European Commission. "
